Canadian Musical Reproduction Rights Agency collects reproduction (aka mechanical royalties) on behalf of music publishers. CMRRA issues licences to individuals or organizations for the reproduction of songs. Reproduction includes:
Download and streaming (Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal etc)
Physical products such as CDs and vinyl
Broadcast mechanical for songs copied onto servers
Audiovisual post-sync reproduction from music videos, YouTube, and social media
Blank media levy aka Private Copying Levy which is a levy imposed on recordable media such as CD-Rs.
In 2017, CMRRA was acquired by SoundExchange, but continues to operate independently.
