Synchronization is placing music to motion pictures. A typical “sync deal” is made between a music publisher and a film producer for the use of a song in a particular film, TV show, or video. Alongside a sync licence, a “master licence” is also required for the use of a particular recording.
The dollar amount of the synchronisation deal is negotiated on a case by case basis between the publisher and the individual or organisation wanting to use the composition.
