Royalty payments are made to rights holders for the use of their copyright. In music, every recorded work has four rights holders who are entitled to earn royalties for their role in creating a musical work. These rights holders include the songwriter/composer, music publisher, performer/session musicians, and master recording owner. The rights holders are represented by various organizations that collect royalties on behalf of the copyright owner.
