A music distributor acts as an intermediary between the artist (or label) and record stores, digital marketplaces, and/or streaming platforms. A distributor is given the right to send your music to these marketplaces to be sold or streamed. Distribution “deals” vary greatly. Physical distributors of CDs and vinyl may demand a percentage of sales, and similarly digital services such as CD Baby and DistroKid, operate on various fee structures from subscription, to flat fee, to percentage of sales
